I can't consider myself a coder or anything and sure as hell not an expert per se, but I actually DO see some difficulties to even pull this kind of cheat without completely fubarring the client.
But then ... its always funny to talk to a buddy in one of the accused parties and have a laugh about how some ppl try to look for excuses which are getting more and more pathetic. What comes next? Will the darn sploiters go to CCP HQ and demand a godmode at gunpoint?

LOL umm yes the lod system (level of detail) in Eve could do with a tweak or two. Any game I can think of has it (Operation Flashpoint has about 10-12, pretty much shines in that aspect) to reduce lag. If a game wouldn't use lods, it would lag with lots of stuff going on even if you played offline.
